From Conflict Zone to Green Haven: Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman Leads the Groundbreaking of Surigao City’s Eco-Tourism Park

A new chapter of sustainability and progress unfolded as Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Green Green Green Project in Sitio Brazil, Barangay Mat-i, Surigao City. The initiative marks the launch of the first phase of the Surigao City Eco-Tourism Park Master Plan, a transformative project designed to turn the once conflict-ridden area into a thriving ecological sanctuary.

Once plagued by insurgency, Sitio Brazil is now poised for an extraordinary transformation under the current administration’s commitment to peace, sustainability, and inclusive development. The Green Green Green Project will breathe new life into the community by revitalizing the landscape with lush green spaces, reforestation efforts, and eco-friendly facilities. This initiative aims to promote environmental conservation while significantly enhancing the well-being and economic prospects of the local population.

During her speech, Secretary Pangandaman underscored the project’s vital role in fostering a sustainable and resilient future for Surigao City. “This initiative goes beyond infrastructure—it is a commitment to environmental stewardship, inclusivity, and ensuring that future generations inherit a greener and more prosperous community,” she stated.

The event was graced by key government officials, including DBM Undersecretary Goddes Hope O. Libiran, LGRCB Director Ryan Lita, DBM Caraga Regional Director Maria Fe D. Jagna, and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Regional Director Cristie Y. Reyes. They were joined by Surigao City’s local government officials, led by City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II and City Vice Mayor Alfonso Casurra, along with City Councilors Joshua Emilio Geli and Karl Duane Casurra, Liga ng mga Barangay President Florenillo Ravelo, and SK President Jenelyn Edulzura.

As the project moves forward, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that Sitio Brazil emerges as a model for ecological preservation and community-driven development. The conversion of this once-troubled site into a sanctuary of peace and sustainability stands as a testament to the power of visionary governance and collective action.

The groundbreaking of the Green Green Green Project signifies not just a physical transformation but also a powerful message of resilience, unity, and a greener future for Surigao City.
