Flood Control 2

Flood Control 1

According to the figures of the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Public Works and Highways, the province of Albay had the largest allocation under the Flood Mitigation Structures and Drainage Systems program of the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2018 with PhP 4.03 billion, Bulacan ranked second with PhP 3.65 billion, and Tarlac with PhP 3.39 billion in third place. Sorsogon ranks 8th place with an allocation of PhP 2.67 billion following the provinces of Cavite, Pampanga, and Cebu.

In the GAA of 2017, Sorsogon ranked 11th place with PhP 2.01 billion for the said program behind provinces like Bulacan, Pampanga, and Albay.

For the Flood Mitigation Facilities within Major and Principal Rivers program of 2018, the province of Pangasinan had the largest allocation with PhP 2.14 billion, Bulacan had the second largest with PhP 1.50 billion, and Nueva Ecija ranked third with PhP 1.19 billion. Sorsogon had a much smaller allocation of PhP 377 million, making it the 22nd province in terms of allocation.

The Flood Mitigation Structures and Drainage Systems program ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of flood control facilities such as dikes, dam floodways, pumping stations, among others in all flood prone areas across the country.

Meanwhile, the construction and rehabilitation of flood mitigation facilities and structures to alleviate flooding in major river basins and principal rivers falls under the Flood Mitigation Facilities within Major and Principal Rivers program.

These allocations serve to bolster the resources of the Department of Public Works and Highways to curb the impact of stronger typhoons on the country brought about by climate change.
