The P1.816 billion proposed 2023 budget of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and its attached agency, Government Procurement Policy Board (GPPB), has been approved by the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday, 06 October 2022.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Sonny Angara, who presided over the public hearing, said that the DBM and its attached agency's budget is submitted for plenary debates.

In her opening statement, DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman underscored the DBM’s goal of implementing efficient and sound fiscal management.

"In the same way that I am advocating for prudent management of fiscal resources in the entire bureaucracy, I will also ensure the efficient and sound utilization of government funds and resources within DBM," Secretary Pangandaman expressed.

"The proposed budget is guided by my priorities as DBM Secretary: bureaucratic efficiency, budget reform and modernization, and green public procurement. With this budget proposal, the DBM commits to deliver two (2) organizational outcomes. First, allocative efficiency and operational effectiveness enhanced, and second, budget improved through sustained fiscal discipline and fiscal openness," Secretary Pangandaman added.

Of the two outcomes, allocative efficiency and operational effectiveness enhanced, which involves the operations of the Office of the Secretary's programs, gets the biggest budget share as it covers the bulk of the DBM's function.

The P1.816 billion proposed budget for 2023 of the DBM and its attached agency is 14.24% lower than this year's budget, amounting to P2.118 billion.
