DBM PRESS RELEASE

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah "Mina" F. Pangandaman welcomed the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) into the growing Dugtong Buhay Movement as the blood donation drive held its 18th installment in Bacolod City today, 07 April 2025.
"Our Dugtong Buhay Movement is a great example of how collaboration can lead to meaningful and life-saving results," Secretary Mina said.
The latest bloodletting activity was held in STI West Negros University in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, where a total of 372 units of blood were successfully collected from donors.
"When schools, government agencies, organizations, and individuals come together with a shared purpose, we create a real impact. This initiative shows that by pooling our efforts, no matter how big or small, we can address urgent needs in our communities, like the continuous demand for safe and adequate blood supply," she added.
She also thanked Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang for continuously working together with the DBM since the Dugtong Buhay was founded in September 2024.
Sec. Mina likewise commended the AFP, represented by its Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., for supporting the Dugtong Buhay Movement as the movement's latest agency partner.
"To General Romeo Brawner Jr., thank you for joining us and for your commitment to having the Armed Forces of the Philippines assist in this very important cause. The AFP’s core mission has always been to protect and save lives, which makes our partnership not only meaningful but essential. I am excited about the meaningful work the DBM and the AFP will accomplish together," Sec. Mina said.
"The Armed Forces of the Philippines proudly supports the Dugtong Buhay Movement, a remarkable initiative that reflects our shared values of service unity, and compassion," General Brawner expressed.
"I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Secretary Pangandaman and to your team for leading this vital mission," he continued.
Since its inception last year, the Dugtong Buhay Movement, a joint effort of the DBM, PCG, PRC, and private sector partners, such as the STI, and now the AFP, has collected a total of 3,688 blood bags.
