DBM PRESS RELEASE

From P500, teachers to receive P7,000 medical allowance starting next year

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah "Mina" F. Pangandaman announced that starting in 2025, government employees, including public school teachers, will receive medical allowance of P7,000.

"Yung tinatawag po nating medical allowance, bago po 'yan. It will start next year po. Dati, sa executive po, wala po kaming HMO (health maintenance organization). Wala po kaming medical allowance. Uniform po na matatanggap ang medical allowance, P7,000. Lahat po [kasama], pati po ang ating mga teachers," Secretary Mina said.

"Ang alam ko po ngayon ang nare-receive nila [DepEd Teachers] for the longest time is just P500. So, kahit papaano po nakatulong," she added. The amount is included under the Teaching Allowance, formerly the Cash Allowance.

Secretary Mina shared the good news during her interview at the "Kapihan sa Manila Bay" with seasoned journalist Marichu Villanueva.

The Budget Secretary discussed several important topics, including the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP) and the salary increase of government workers, as provided in Executive Order (EO) No. 64 recently signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. According to the EO, government employees will also receive an annual medical allowance not exceeding P7,000 as a subsidy for the availment of health maintenance organization (HMO)-type benefits.

Apart from the salary increase and medical allowance for teachers, other benefits intended for the country's educators will receive allocations in the FY 2025 NEP.

These include the Teaching Allowance, Compensation for Teaching Overload, Special Hardship Allowance, and World Teachers' Day Incentive.
