The Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) expressed profound gratitude to Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah “Mina” F. Pangandaman for the increased budget allocation dedicated to the university’s research and development programs.

According to Gaudencio C. Petalcorin, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at MSU-IIT, their University received P54 million for research Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) this year, 2024.

Ang budget natin for 2024 para lang sa research and development ay umaabot ng P54 million… Ang galing ng DBM dahil since nakita nila na marami namang nagawa ang unibersidad natin dito sa Iligan, binigyan pa nila tayo ng pondo para may magawa pa in terms of research, at maka-produce pa ng mga produkto para sa kinabukasan na makakatulong sa pag-create ng bagong industries at pagpaparami ng trabaho,” Vice Chancellor Petalcorin said.

Petalcorin emphasized this during the media conference held after Secretary Mina served as Guest of Honor and Speaker during the  University's 54th Commencement Exercise today, 8 July 2024.

Petalcorin announced that, as a result, MSU-IIT has reached the publication threshold required by Times Higher Education to enter the World University Ranking.

MSU-IIT hopes that this year, it will follow the University of the Philippines in being included in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking. Thus, the  Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs profusely extended the University's heartfelt appreciations to the DBM.

Kaya 'yun ang pasasalamat talaga namin sa DBM dahil hindi nila pinabayaan ang ating Unibersidad sa Iligan,” Petalcorin underscored.

As the Secretary of the DBM, Sec. Mina provides strong support for research and development programs. Her extensive experience in government and economics equips her to champion initiatives aimed at strengthening the research and development sector in the Philippines .

Meanwhile, in her speech during the commencement ceremonies, Sec Mina encouraged the graduates to strive for success.

The key to success lies in honest and focused hard work,” according to Sec. Mina.

At the end of her message, Secretary Pangandaman gave an important reminder for the graduates.

I want to tell you guys this: Be bold in your pursuits, ethical in your decisions, and compassionate in your actions. The world needs visionary leaders who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also empathetic and committed to making a positive difference,” Secretary Pangandaman highlighted.
