WASHINGTON, D.C. — Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Mina F. Pangandaman underscored the commitment of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to boost economic growth and address the pressing needs of the Filipino people.
The Budget Secretary made the statement as one of the panelists during the Philippine Dialogue, which took place in Washington, D.C., USA on 17 April 2024.
"We started this administration very strong, and we are committed to finishing even stronger. We have a very good road map. Our Philippine Development Plan, our Medium-Term Fiscal Framework, which has been approved by both houses—the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines. Rest assured that our budget will continuously respond to the most urgent needs of our countrymen," Secretary Pangandaman said.
The PH Dialogue is a private conversation between economic managers and stakeholders from the Philippines, with a base in the US.
Joining the Budget Secretary were other members of the Philippine Economic Team led by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, with Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Development Authority, and Deputy Governor Francisco Dakila, Jr. of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Sec. Pangandaman is the lone woman member of the Philippine economic team and the only Muslim member of the Cabinet of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
During the discussion, Secretary Pangandaman outlined the administration’s policies and budget priorities to make the Philippine economy an attractive magnet for foreign investments.
The budget Secretary also pledged to further strengthen the current administration's development thrust through government-led programs and allocate the necessary budget to address the needs of the Filipino people.
The dialogue also covered the macroeconomic landscape of the Philippines, regulations, and other reforms aimed at improving business conditions and making it seamless for investors to do business in the country. Additionally, they discussed the investment climate in the Philippines.
Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America, His Excellency Jose Manuel G. Romualdez, welcomed the economic managers and around 90 executives from US-based funds and corporations, multilateral institutions, and the public sector who are based in D.C. or are in D.C. for the IMF-WB Spring Meetings. Finance Secretary Recto, meanwhile, delivered the Keynote Speech during the event.
Also present at the PH Dialogue were Michael Ellam, Chairman of Public Sector Banking, Global Banking and Markets at HSBC who also served as a panelist; Jay Collins, Vice Chairman of Corporate & Investment Banking at Citi who delivered the closing remarks; and Michael Paulus, Managing Director and Head of the Public Sector Group, Asia Pacific at Citi who acted as the host/moderator.
The PH Dialogue was organized by several institutions, including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), BofA Securities, Citi, Department of Finance (DOF), Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Washington, D.C., HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Standard Chartered Bank, and UBS.

Ginawa ng Budget Secretary ang pahayag bilang isa sa mga panelist sa Philippine Dialogue, na isinagawa sa Washington, D.C., USA noong ika-17 Abril 2024.
