Championing Equality: A Message from the Secretary

Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

As a staunch advocate of gender equality and women's empowerment, I am proud to share the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) official launch of its Gender and Development (GAD) Corner. This platform reflects our dedication to ensuring that gender-responsive governance remains at the heart of our nation's progress.

The DBM GAD Corner serves as an avenue for promoting transparency, collaboration, and continuous development in gender and development initiatives. It will feature key
resources such as the DBM's Annual GAD Plan and Budget, our GAD accomplishment reports, and GAD-related issuances, as well as features of GAD events. It is a space
where policies translate into action, where knowledge fuels advocacy, and where diverse voices are heard and recognized.

For decades, the Philippines has been a trailblazer in integrating gender perspectives into policymaking and budgeting. From pioneering the Women's Budget in 1995 to protecting women through the Magna Carta of Women, we have continuously evolved our efforts to create a society where every woman has the opportunity to lead, contribute, and thrive.

Through strategic blueprints like the Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE) Plan and the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, we ensure that gender responsive initiatives are not just envisioned but actively realized. Similarly, we ensure that the budget supports programs reinforcing access to education, health, and financial inclusion pillars that uplift women, their families, and their communities.

On the global stage, the Philippines continues to champion the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda. We take pride in being the first Asian nation to adopt a National Action Plan on WPS, recognizing the vital role of women in peacebuilding and governance. As we move forward, we deepen our commitment by addressing emerging challenges such as digital gap, lasting peace, climate resilience, and cybersecurity.

And while we acknowledge the significant gains we have attained, we recognize that more work needs to be done towards gender equality. It is my hope that through the DBM GAD Corner, more Filipinos will help build a future where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality for all. As we strive to achieve our Agenda for Prosperity, we must remain focused on our fight for young women and girls across the country and provide them with a more inclusive and
brighter tomorrow.

Maraming salamat po.

Wabilhi Tawfiq Wal Hidaya, Wasalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.
