The increased investment will support 67,504 scholars nationwide, or 2,407 more beneficiaries than the 65,097 scholars funded under the FY 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), representing a 3.70% increase in government-supported scholars.

 

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Acting Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon said the higher allocation reflects the Marcos Administration’s continuing investment in Filipino talent and its push to build a stronger pool of scientists, engineers, researchers, and innovators who can help address the country’s development challenges.

 

Through the proposed FY 2027 National Budget, the government is opening more opportunities for young Filipinos to pursue STEM education and eventually apply their knowledge and expertise in areas such as agriculture, health, disaster resilience, digital transformation, industry, and other national priorities.

 

Of the P8.67-billion proposed allocation, P7.55 billion will go to the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI), which administers undergraduate and graduate scholarships and advanced specialized training, while promoting science education and a stronger science and technology culture in the country.

 

Another P1.12 billion is proposed for the Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) to continue providing specialized secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), helping prepare its scholars to become globally competitive Filipino scientists and professionals equipped with 21st-century skills.

 

The investment forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the Philippines’ science, technology, and innovation ecosystem—not only by investing in research and emerging technologies, but also by developing the Filipino talent that will turn scientific knowledge and discoveries into practical solutions and economic opportunities.

 

President Marcos underscored the importance of Filipino scientists, researchers, and innovators to the country’s technological transformation in his Budget Message for FY 2027.

 

“At the heart of our digital transformation are the Filipino scientists, researchers, and innovators whose expertise drives discovery, strengthens evidence-based policymaking, and develops solutions to the nation’s most pressing challenges. Their work continues to advance innovation, enhance national competitiveness, and prepare the Philippines for the opportunities of the future,” President Marcos said.

 

Through the proposed FY 2027 National Budget, the DBM is helping expand the country’s pipeline of STEM talent—from promising students in science high schools to undergraduate and graduate scholars who could become the Philippines’ next generation of scientists, engineers, researchers, and innovators.

Mas marami pang kabataang Pilipino ang magkakaroon ng pagkakataon sa larangan ng science, technology, engineering, research, at innovation dahil itinaas ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa P8.67 bilyon ang pondo para sa Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarship Programs sa ilalim ng panukalang Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 National Budget.

 

Susuportahan ng pondo para sa susunod na taon ang 67,504 scholars sa buong bansa. Tumaas ito ng 2,407 o 3.70% kumpara sa 65,097 scholars na sinusuportahan sa ilalim ng FY 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

 

Ayon kay Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Acting Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon, ipinapakita ng mas mataas na alokasyon ang patuloy na investment ng Administrasyong Marcos sa talento ng mga Pilipino at ang pagsisikap nito na magkaroon ng stronger pool ng scientists, engineers, researchers, at innovators na makatutulong sa pagtugon sa development challenges ng bansa.

 

Sa pamamagitan ng panukalang FY 2027 National Budget, nagbubukas ang pamahalaan ng mas maraming pagkakataon para sa mga kabataang Pilipino na makapag-aral ng Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at magamit ang kanilang kaalaman at kasanayan sa ibang mga larangan tulad ng agrikultura, kalusugan, disaster resilience, digital transformation, industriya, at iba pang national priorities.

 

Sa alokasyon na P8.67 bilyon, P7.55 bilyon ang ilalaan sa DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI), na nangangasiwa sa undergraduate at graduate scholarships at advanced specialized training, habang pino-promote ang science education at mas matatag na kultura ng science and technology sa bansa.

 

Karagdagang P1.12 bilyon naman ang panukala para sa Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) upang maipagpatuloy ang pagbibigay ng espesyal na secondary education sa STEM. Layunin nitong ihanda ang mga iskolar nito na maging globally competitive na mga Pilipinong siyentista at propesyonal na may sapat na 21st-century skills.

 

Bahagi ang pamumuhunang ito ng mas malawak na estratehiya ng pamahalaan upang palakasin ang science, technology, at innovation ecosystem ng Pilipinas—hindi lamang sa pamamagitan ng pamumuhunan sa research at emerging technologies, kundi pati na rin sa paghubog ng mga talentong Pilipino na magbibigay-buhay sa kaalamang siyentipiko at mga tuklas tungo sa mga praktikal na solusyon at oportunidad sa ekonomiya.
